I never had to read this book in school. As part of my reading bucket list challenge, I decided to read it. Well...I will have to say that I would never read this book just for pleasure.
This is one of the slowest books I have ever read. Page after page would be given to just describing one person or setting. Personally I don’t need that much detail. Give me some good adjectives and let my imagination fill in the rest. I was so tempted to skip many pages but I trudged on.
Also, the dramatic nature of the characters drove me totally nuts. One of the men acted like a woman with the vapors and he was supposed to be this manly man. I’m sorry, but that had me screaming at him. Maybe others like it, but not me.
The book is very long. I finally finished it after a few weeks and I normally could finish one that size in a few days. Overall the story was good, but it was too bland for me. Maybe I prefer more action packed stories and ones with more suspense. I feel that in today’s world, this is one book that never would have been published.
Do I recommend this book? Not unless you just want to know what it is all about.
Note: I purchased this book with my own funds.
