It takes time to write. You don’t whip out a story in a day or even a week unless you are writing short stories. Scenes don’t always flow from your mind smoothly. It takes time to write a good story. Pushing it, you can crank out the first draft of a novel in a month.
Many times you need quiet time to write. I know there are certain scenes that I cannot write with other people around. I need to create time to focus on the writing. And getting that time is not easy.
Too many times, a writer finds himself unable to write. Something stops him. Truthfully, it can be anything that prevents you from mentally writing a story.
Stress if a big factor. When you are stressed, you can can’t focus, and you can’t seem to get anything done right. I’ve had trouble doing simple things like putting the right ingredients in a recipe I’ve used many times. It can really block the plot and dialogue flow from a writer.
I get writer’s block when too much is competing for my thought processes. When there are distractions with work, school, kids, and life in general I can’t seem to think straight even to put a sentence together.
Writing has to be deliberate and a lot of thought put into it. Time, people, and circumstances have to be fought to achieve it.
