Why did I choose these are your examples? Because so many authors, publishers, and marketers think it is sacrilegious not to use these marketing tools. Now I’m not saying these are bad ideas. In fact, many of them work for some authors quite well. I’m just saying if you challenge them or question their effectiveness, you will get attention.
As attention is brought to your topic, you’ll get people arguing, agreeing, but most of all thinking. In the end, you might close with how you love these methods and support them. It doesn’t matter what side you take as long as you get readers to challenge their own thoughts about it. Remember that you want to get other people thinking and talking which in turn helps you.
What is so important about challenging traditions? There is nothing wrong with tradition, but people tend to let tradition run their plans instead of using their own brains. They become obsessed with tradition. That’s when tradition might need to be thrown out the window. Never ever let tradition become the guiding force in your marketing.
