Create a Killer Cover
You need to have a cover that catches the eye. If it doesn’t, the odds are that a reader will pass right over it without giving it a chance. The synopsis might be great. The plot could be exceptional. But if the cover turns them off, they may never open the book. That’s a shame. The old adage about not judging a book by its cover is hard to follow. Books are always judged by the cover. Sad but true.
This means you need to have a killer cover. It needs to stand out. It needs to catch my eye. That also means you have to spend time on it or find someone who does great jobs with unique covers. I stress ‘unique’. Too many people use stock photos which means too many covers look the same. You want something no one else has. You want to stand out in a crowd.
How to Promote
So how do you promote a cover? You kind of do it the same way you promote a book in general. Share it! Post it! Make a big deal about it. Let me see how cool it really it.
Remember that this is very visual marketing. Use places that are as visual tools to promote. Pinterest is a great one for this. Wherever people are looking for pictures, promote your book there.
Don’t hesitate to change a cover. If a cover isn’t doing it for you, get another one. Update based on new trends or a new season.
