What is Spam?
This sounds like it should be an easy question to answer, but there are times when it is not. Obviously, posting links to promote products and/or services you like or own on other people’s sites, pages, etc. is spam. Then there is continually posting links of your books in a group or forum. Just doing that and especially across multiple groups is spamming. If you do this on your own wall/page, it is not spamming no matter what some people might say. It is only spam when you invade other people’s timelines, pages, and walls.
There are some things that are borderline spam due to a large number of people not understanding the full definition of spam. I posted on my own Facebook wall several things I was selling on eBay. One person told me off on how I was a spammer and he was going to report me. That’s not spamming when it is on your own wall. Spamming involves intruding on someone else’s page/site/email.
So what about groups? These aren’t really belonging to the individual members yet they are. When someone signs up for a group, they sign up for what the group represents. They aren’t signing up for seeing you post all the time about your work. Read the rules of the group. One post could be considered spam while other groups will allow you a certain number of posts.
